After a few days, my Mom said that the car was already accessible for a test drive. I was surprised because I thought I’d be the one to pick the one I like. “I bought the car from my friend. It’s from Korea and they sold it for a very cheap price it’s not in a very good condition, but at least you already have one.” She said. I had some mixed sentiments during that time. “Oh well, she’s right. I should be grateful, everyone dreams of having one anyway.’
Finally, my eyes beheld an Automatic transmission maroon Hyundai Elantra right in front of me. I started to drive around our subdivision. The engine ran smoothly, the gas pedal was okay. The steering wheel was fine. Except for the aircon. It wasn’t working. I didn’t notice that the right mirror was broken. Two doors were locked forever and the tires were getting bald. Now, I know the reason why my Mom bought it with a ‘very cheap price.’
I tried to use it in school. I actually drove around the whole Cebu, still ‘test-driving’ it. And, I tell you, it gave me a head ache. I felt I was taking care of a senior citizen who peed on his pants. It was a catastrophe. Hence, I gave the car a name. I named him, Domeng.
(NOT THE ACTUAL CAR)Domeng on the other hand was a good companion to me. He helped me to go to places I have never been. He was my late night escort. He was my best friend when it comes to night dates with my girlfriend(s). He was there for me when I needed him the most. I can easily spot him in the parking lot because he is inimitable. I’m self-assured because carnappers would surely be not interested to get him.
It has been three years since he became my best pal. Oh, by the way, the aircon is now working. (It’s very cold actually, that sometimes people who ride there always want me to turn it off), The right mirror was fixed using a cement glue. It doesn’t look okay though. And the two doors? They can be opened now, except that the handle inside it was wrecked.
My parents said that we should dispose him soon. Every time something in him gets fixed, another problem comes. And it’s not getting cheaper. I have mixed emotions upon knowing this. Part of me doesn’t want him to go. But he has to. So long, Domeng. :(
